Kentucky State Police kick off Operation Holiday Lights
KSP troopers from across the state will be looking at data to see where highway crashes involving injury or death occur most often. The new campaign involves having posts look at when and where crashes are prevalent and to schedule heavier patrols in those spots. Police are using traffic safety checkpoints, covert details in high traffic areas and night vision equipment to help in the effort. Data shows over 50% of drivers killed last year weren't wearing seatbelts. Officers will focus on seat belt usage and proper child seat restraints. The campaign runs through January 1st.
