Betsy Layne High School awarded 25,000 grant

The faculty and staff of Betsy Layne High School were presented with a 25,000 check on Friday by local State Farm insurance officials. Agent Sam Doyle of the Prestonsburg office was on hand to award principal Cassandra Akers the check. Betsy Layne High School won the award by participating in the nationwide "Celebrate My Drive" campaign. The campaign involved students, teachers and community members signing an online pledge to be safe drivers. Mrs. Akers stated that the grant will be used to pay for a safe driving program for the students, as well as to purchase televisions, picnic tables and a credit recovery program for the school.
