Severe weather causes flash flooding in areas of Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday evening

Severe thunderstorms caused flash flooding on Wednesday evening in portions of Pike County.

Severe thunderstorms affected areas near Belfry and Mouthcard at around 8:30 p.m. Reports of quarter size hail, as well as winds approaching 60 mph were associated with the storm. Severe weather was also reported on Wednesday afternoon in portions of Magoffin and Morgan counties.

The hot temperatures that have plagued Eastern Kentucky this week are expected to lessen over the weekend. A cold front is expected to arrive early Saturday. The passing front could produce more strong thunderstorms on Saturday.
