Pike Co. officials say lawsuit with OxyContin maker is settled

Pike County has settled a lawsuit with the makers of OxyContin concerning abuse of the drug.

According to WYMT-TV, Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford told the Appalachian News Express that Purdue Pharma agreed to pay four million dollars.

Rutherford said he could not give further details due to terms of the agreement.

The county initially filed the suit in 2007 and asked for damages the community suffered after the company marketed OxyContin as a safer alternative to other pain medicine.
