A Powell Co Park Has Been The Target Of Arson For The Third Time This Month

Officials in Powell County are now offering a reward after someone intentionally set fire to a playground in Stanton, the third arson fire at a Powell County city park in the month.

The arson happened overnight at Stanton's city park. The mayor says there's been a rash of fires across the county at local parks and he plans to put a stop to it.

The first fire was a port-a-potty set fire a few weeks ago at Stanton Park, and then the next day another fire set to the playground in Clay City. Luckily, firefighters were able to get to it quickly and knock it out.

Police are also saying this latest fire is extremely suspicious because of how quickly the fire caught. The mulch in this playground is actually made out of tire rubber and should not have gone up as fast.

The mayor says it cost $50,000 to build the park and it's going to cost thousands more to replace. He's offering a $500 reward leading to the arrest of whoever is behind the rash of crimes.
