Bodies found in 2012 investigation identified

A murder investigation is underway in Breathitt County seven months after two people were found dead in a burned car.

According to WYMT-TV the Breathitt County coroner says that the bodies found back in October were so badly burnt that they had to be sent to Texas for identification.

Now, months later, the results answer the question investigators and family members have been asking all along.

A heartbroken Kelly Spencer is asking for help, by collecting donations for the funeral of his niece, Crystal Hufstetler.

Seven months ago the bodies of her and her husband, Michael Hufstetler were found in a burned car.

However until Friday, no one knew for sure if it was them. The bodies were sent to Texas in order to be positively identified.

The Breathitt County coroner says Crystal died from gunshot wounds in her back, and Michael was killed by gunshot wounds to his chest and blunt force trauma to his head.

So with a small collection of money, they can now say goodbye once and for all.

Police have not yet made any arrests in the case, which is now being considered a murder investigation.
