A former Mingo Co Wva prosecutor pleaded guilty on Monday in a federal corruption case

Michael Sparks pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of deprivation of civil rights during a hearing in US District Court. Sparks is the third former Mingo County official to plead guilty to federal charges involving a scheme to cover up evidence of alleged illegal drug use and other misconduct by a former Mingo County sheriff. Sparks resigned in October after being charged in the scheme. He faces a maximum of one year in prison, a year of supervised release and up to a 100,000 fine.
