Van Lear's own Loretta Lynn was honored on Wednesday with the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Loretta Lynn was among fifteen others honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is considered the highest civilian award in the nation. The award was presented by President Obama during a ceremony on Wednesday. Lynn is known worldwide as the " Coal Miners Daughter" in connection with a song she wrote about her childhood that later became a Hollywood movie. Other honored with the award included former president Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.
