An Eastern Kentucky bank employee has been charged with embezzlement

An employee at the Summit branch of Peoples Bank has been charged with embezzling more than 50,000 over a nine month period. Joanna Rigsby was arrested by Kentucky State Police and charged with theft by unlawful taking, greater than 10,000. the charge is a Class C felony that carries a 5-10 year possible prison sentence. The alleged thefts occurred between January and September of 2013. The money was discovered missing while Rigsby was on vacation. Rigsby was taken to the Boyd County detention center and later released after posting bond. Rigsby is scheduled to be arraigned at 9am Wednesday in Boyd District Court.
