Patriot Coal planning to add jobs in portions of Kentucky

Several different organizations joined forces on Wednesday in Pikeville for a job fair for mining positions with Patriot Coal. The positions will be a located at a mine site in western Kentucky, but will come as welcome news for eastern Kentucky, which has been hit hard with mining layoffs. Over 100 miners turned out for the fair.

Organizations such as the Hiring Our Miners Everyday or HOME program and the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program were on hand for the event. The first round of hiring is expected to take place in the next two weeks. Patriot Coal officials say at least 40 miners will be hired in the next two weeks, with an additional 40 to be hired in the coming months.
