Police are investigating a shooting in Knott Co.
Kentucky State Police and the Knott County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a shooting on Monday afternoon in the Mousie community of Knott County.
Officials say a call came into the State Police dispatch at just after 1:00 p.m. of a shooting beside the Mousie Post Office on Kentucky Route 550. Jody Sims, public affairs officer for KSP Post 13 in Hazard, spoke with Q95 News about the incident, saying that "probation and parole officer Brian Melvin was shot in the arm during an altercation while attempting to gather information on the whereabouts of Rocky Wicker, Jr. Officials were unable to locate Wicker Junior, but did come into contact with Rocky Wicker, Sr."
Police say the elder Wicker came outside of a home brandishing a weapon, then began firing on Melvin and three other officers. Melvin was shot in the arm and transported to Hazard ARH Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Wicker Sr. was taken into custody by state police.
As of Monday evening, Wicker, Jr. remained at large. Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting. The three other officers suffered minor injuries. Wicker, Sr. was not injured. Police have not yet released the charges filed against Wicker, Sr.
