U.S. 23 crash has claimed the life of a Johnson Co. woman

Police have released the name of a woman who died on Monday after the SUV she was driving was struck on the driver's side by a coal truck.

Ruth A. Davis died after she had attempted to pull on to U.S. 23 north from Rt. 321 near Turner Branch Hill. The coal truck attempted to stop, but was unable to do so before striking the 2003 Chevy Blazer being driven by Davis. The impact pushed the car nearly 50 feet along U.S. 23 North. The driver of the coal truck was not injured.

U.S. 23 North remained closed for several hours while officials reconstructed the accident scene. The Kentucky State Police, Johnson County Sheriff's department and Kentucky Division of Vehicle Enforcement responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
