Commercial air flights coming to Pike County

Pikeville and Pike County officials have announced that a new program has been approved by the FAA that will bring commercial air service to Pike County.

A meeting was held on Friday to vote on two contracts that will bring the service to Pike County. Two contracts, one for use of the airport and one for air service, were presented. After passing both contracts, officials announced plans to begin daily service to Nashville beginning in March of 2014.

Officials credited Hal Rogers and community support as key factors in landing a $750,000 federal grant. A ceremony to present the brand name and aircraft is scheduled for October 17th.
