Sentencing set today for former Agricultural Commissioner Richie Farmer
Former Kentucky Agricultural Commissioner and UK basketball star Richie Farmer is scheduled to be sentenced today on charges of misappropriating government resources. Farmer pleaded guilty to the charge last September. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop other charges that included mail fraud. Prosecutors have asked for a 27 month prison sentence, the maximum under the plea deal. Defense attorneys are seeking a 21 month sentence, saying Farmer's children would suffer with the longer sentence. Farmer will also likely face a fine of over 120,000. Farmer's sentencing is set for this afternoon in Frankfort.
