A Magoffin County man pleads not guilty to a charge of murder

The Paintsville Herald is reporting that a Magoffin County man had pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, first degree assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol first offense within five years. Gene Helton, 43, of Salyersville pleaded not guilty on Friday. A grand jury indictment charges that Helton allegedly wantonly operated a motor vehicle with extreme indifference to human life, resulting in the death of Miranda Martin and serious physical injury to Billy Royster in regard to an accident that occurred on US 23 in May near the entrance to KY 201. Helton is due back in court in February.
