Governor Steve Beshear unveils plans to extend the Mountain Parkway

Kentucky's governor has unveiled a plan that would extend and widen the Mountain Parkway. The 753 million dollar project would create a four lane highway from central Kentucky to Prestonsburg. Beshear plans to include the proposal as part of the state highway plan. The plan would widen nearly 30 miles of the parkway between Campton and Salyersville to four lanes, and would also extend the parkway to connect with US 23 in Prestonsburg. The proposal received praise from House Speaker Greg Stumbo who said " the project will create an economic lifeline to an area that needs it." Tolls are expected to be collected along the parkway to help finance the project.,
