Water outage affecting up to 5,000 in Boyd County

Dispatchers in Ashland say a major water main break has affected water service to nearly 5,000 customers in Boyd County. Ashland, Cattletsburg and Summit have all been affected by the break. The incident occurred Monday evening near the 2500 block of Carter Avenue. Service is expected to be restored today, as crews returned to resume work early this morning. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible, due to ice-covered roads. Due to the water issues, Home Federal Bank, the Boyd County Courthouse and the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department are closed. Wsaz is reporting that officials say those who do have water in the affected areas are advised to boil any water used for cooking or drinking.
