Black Ice conditions create travel problems throughout Eastern Kentucky

Black Ice conditions created travel problems throughout Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. One county hit hard was Knott County. Dozens of crashes were reported one of which involved a Kentucky State Police cruiser. A state trooper was outside of his cruiser which sat along Ky. highway 550 in Knott County when an oncoming truck lost control in a curve and proceeded to knock the cruiser into a nearby creek. The accident took place near the Garner community. No injuries were reported in the accident. Three people were also rescued in a separate accident involving an SUV that crashed into a creek off of Rt. 7 in Knott County in the Kite area. The SUV lost control on black ice and dropped off the road into a nearby creek. None of the three passengers was injured.
