Former Mingo judge set for sentencing today

Sentencing is set for today for a former Mingo County judge facing corruption charges. Michael Thornsbury's sentencing will take place in federal court this afternoon. Thornsbury pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to deprive George White of his constitutional rights. The charge was related to a scheme aimed at protecting the late Sheriff Eugene Crum from illegal drug use accusations. Federal guidelines call for 30 to 37 months in prison for Thornsbury. Defense attorneys say Thornsbury has cooperated with an ongoing federal corruption investigation in the county. Prosecutors say Thornsbury should receive a lengthy sentence because he abused his power.
