A two vehicle accident in downtown Prestonsburg sends two people to the hospital

An two vehicle accident this afternoon in Prestonsburg resulted in two people being taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center. The accident took place around 11:30 am at the intersection of Mays Branch and Kentucky Route 321. A black Prestonsburg Public Works truck and a green passenger van were involved in the accident. Prestonsburg Fire Chief Bobby Carpenter tells Q95 news that emergency crews were forced to use the jaws of life in order to remove the van operator from the vehicle. Officials say both drivers suffered from what appeared to be serious but non-life threatening injuries. Route 321 was closed for about an hour while crews worked to clear the area. Prestonsburg City Police, Kentucky State Police and the Prestonsburg Fire Department responded to the accident which remains under investigation. Names of those involved in the accident have not been released at this time.
