Pike County Jewelry Store Robbed

Police in Pike County are investigating a robbery at Hefner Jewelers in Coal Run that took place yesterday. Coal Run Police are currently looking for the person responsible and are asking anyone with information about the robbery to phone them at 606-437-6032.

Magoffin County Farm Nominated for National Register of Historic Places

In Magoffin County, a 100 plus acre farm has been selected for the National Register of Historic Places. The Gardner Farmstead in Salyersville has been home to the Gardner family for six generations and is currently inhabited by 81 year old Ben Gardner and his wife. Gardner said at one time the farm had 10,000 acres but is now down to about 150. Work still continues on the farm that used to produce tobacco, corn, hay, and cattle. In the civil war, the farm was used as a safety house for soldiers on both sides of the war. The nomination must now be approved by the National Park Service.

Three Injured in Bell County Car Crash

Three people were injured in a car crash that happened around 9pm last night in Bell County. A helicopter was called to the scene near Pineville on Kentucky 92 and all three were taken to a local hospital. One person had been trapped in the vehicle and the names of the three people and the hospitals they were taken to is unknown at this time.

Huge Marijuana Growing Operation Found in Ashland

Police in Ashland found hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana yesterday while conducting an investigation into a burglary. A vehicle that was believed to be connected to the robbery was spotted at a home on Palmer Street. A search warrant was obtained and when police entered the home, they began to find the marijuana. More than 150 plants were seized with a believed street value of over 300,000 dollars. The person suspected in the burglary and now, the marijuana operation, is still being searched for.

Laurel County Police Search For Burglary Suspect

Police is Laurel County are asking the public to help find a man who burglarized Macs Filling Station on US 25 E. The burglary happened on May 31st and police have released surveillance video showing the person who appears to be wearing a light hooded sweatshirt. The thief stole several cartons of cigarettes in addition to other tobacco and lottery tickets. Anyone who could provide information is asked to phone the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office at 606-864-6600.

McCreary County Man Killed After Being Hit By Car

A man is dead in McCreary County after being struck by a car on Tuesday night. 27 year old Mickey Hatfield was walking on Wilburn K. Ross Highway in Stearns when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Hatfield died on the scene and police say alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors in his death.

Leslie County Fire Department Hold Benefit For Underprivileged

In Leslie County, members of the Thousandsticks Volunteer Fire Department held a benefit yesterday for underprivileged families, providing food and clothing. HANDS program worker Laura Evans said her company provide assistance to the fire department, providing clothing and supplies to new mothers as well as pregnant women. The Fire Department said 55 families received items yesterday, but they are always taking donations from the public. Anyone who would like to donate can call 606-672-4911.

Pulaski County Fire Truck Totaled After Crash

In Pulaski County a fire truck was completely totaled in a wreck yesterday around 4:30pm. The crash happened on the Cumberland Parkway when the truck was stopped on the scene of a vehicle fire. Another driver on the parkway approached but failed to stop and crashed into the truck. The driver of the oncoming vehicle was treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and none of the firefighters on the scene were injured.

Laurel County Men Facing Possible Meth Charges

In Laurel County, two men are facing charges after a search of their car produced several baggies which are believed to contain meth. Lenham Farmer and Stanley Elliott were arrested on Saturday. Police also found a gun and close to 200 dollars in the vehicle. Both are facing a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance. Farmer also faces possession of a firearm and other charges. Elliott also faces an open container charge.

Eric C. Conn Court Hearing Cancelled

A court hearing that was scheduled for this morning in Floyd County where attorney Eric C. Conn was ordered to appear has been cancelled. It is currently unknown when the case, which was scheduled to take place today in Floyd County Circuit Court, will be rescheduled.
