TCU outlasts Texas A&M in 16 innings for final Omaha spot

What a way for the super-regional round to end!

Six hours and three minutes after the first pitch, a throwing error at the plate gave TCU a walkoff 5-4 win in the bottom of the 16th inning and booked the final spot in the College World Series.

Vanderbilt took down Illinois and Cal State Fullerton outlasted Louisville to fill out the eight-team field in Omaha.

Sitting on a 4-2 lead with shutdown closer, Riley Ferrell, on the mound in the top of the ninth, it didn’t look like it would be a dramatic finish for the Horned Frogs. Ferrell, who has struggled this postseason, gave free passes to the first two Aggies he faced and had to be yanked. After another walk loaded ’em up, Mitchell Nau and Logan Taylor put consecutive groundouts in play to tie the game.

TCU blew chance after chance in the late innings. A&M reliever Ryan Hendrix was an absolute iron man, repeatedly working out of jams as he gave up just four hits in a little over 4 innings of work.

Triple Crown Winner From Kentucky

Over the weekend, a KY native pulled off one of the biggest sporting achievements in the world. American Pharaoh was scheduled to be back home in the Bluegrass today after becoming the first Triple Crown winning horse in 37 years!!
After winning the Kentucky derby, followed by the Preakness, the horse did what 37 previous have failed to do! American Pharaoh won the Belmont Stakes on Saturday and won the Triple Crown.
Trainer, Bob Baffert, had the house on display for everyone at Belmont yesterday as the champion horse posed for pictures and let bystanders pet him.

American Pharaoh will have some rest now after a schedule that saw him win five Grade 1 races in the last 2 ½ months.
While the horse will run again this year according to Baffert, which races planned for the future are still yet to be determined.
Many believe the goal is the 5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, this Halloween at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky.

Coming Up Belmont Cup

Horse racing has always been an exciting sport to watch!  This weekend is the Belmont Race, last race of the season.

As most know, American Pharoah is the heavy favorite to win the Belmont Stakes and become the first horse in 37 years to secure the Triple Crown, with 3-5 odds. The opening lines were released on Wednesday morning, along with post positions.

The leading challengers behind American Pharoah are Frosted, the fourth-place finisher at the Kentucky Derby, who received 5-1 odds on Wednesday, and Materiality, the sixth-place finisher at the Kentucky Derby, who has 6-1 odds. Neither of the top two challengers participated in the Preakness.

The field will feature only eight horses, the smallest field since 2007, after a pair were pulled from the event earlier this week.

Wednesday evening at the drawing, American Pharoah received the 5 post, which is at the middle of the field. At the Kentucky Derby, American Pharoah started far on the outside with the 17 post and won the Preakness from the inside with the 1 post.

Here is the line up for this weekends race!

Reds drop Game 1 in Philadelphia Series, 5-4.

The struggles continue for the Cincinnati Reds who lost 5-4 last night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Darin Ruf singled to right field bringing Odubel Herrea home in the walk-off victory. The win snapped a seven game losing streak for the Phillies, the longest streak since July 20th-28th 2013 when they lost eight straight. For the Reds, Johnny Cueto pitched for the first time since May 19th with a sore elbow. He allowed five hits, two runs, and struck out four batters in his six innings at the plate. Game 2 in the series is tonight at 7:05pm.
