National Poison Prevention Week

This week, March 20 through the 25, is National Poison Prevention Week and the Kentucky Poison Control Center is seeing a rash of eye injuries. Each year, the Kentucky Poison Control Center receives thousands of calls about eyes splashes. Poison Prevention Coordinator Maria Chapman says too often people go straight to the hospital while a call to the center (1-800-222-1222) should be the first step. Chapman says the Poison Control Center can talk you through how to properly flush eyes, even those of an hysterical toddler. Eyes injuries often occur when a spray cleaner is left in the reach of a child. Chapman says to properly store those colorful concentrated laundry pods because toddlers find them attractive and can break them open.
